National Big Birding Day programme now available
The fifth Uganda Big Birding Day programme, which details the date for the birding race, designated sites for birding, the birding festival and other related activities, has been released.
The national Big Birding Day aka #BBD is due to take place on Saturday 20 October, 2012 with guided nature walks throughout the country
“The Big Birding Day” is a special day when every person in Uganda is encouraged to go out birding in any part of the country, with the main aim of increasing awareness on the potential of birds to promote tourism in Uganda. This event also aims to promote domestic tourism, by involving Ugandans in such an exciting exercise.
The first BBD was organized in 2003 followed by the events in 2009, 2010 and 2011. The BBD comprises of three main events; the launch which is in form of a public lecture; the birding day, where we all go out for birding in the whole country in sites of our choice; and the big birding festival, which is the final day where we announce the results from the birding event.
This year, the Big Birding Day will run as per the programme below;
- The Launch at the Uganda Museum in Kampala, Kira Road on Friday 19, at 4.30pm
- Bird watching day all over the country (All National Parks, Bird areas and other sites) on Saturday 20
- And the Big Birding Festival at Entebbe Botanical Gardens in Entebbe Town on Saturday 27 October. The festival starts from 7.00am till 4.00pm
The theme for this year is “Connecting Birds to people and Nature” and sub theme: “Birding @ 50 years: Saving the Crane, our National symbol” says, the organizing committee.
Nature Uganda will offer free transport from Kampala to Entebbe for people who register in advance e.g. at a table during the launch events at the museum on the 19 Oct.
Thanks to GeoLodges Uganda who has sponsored lunch for the winning BBD team at any of their lodges. Last year, the Queen Elizabeth NP area team won the race and they were treated to a sumptuous lunch at the award-winning Jacana Safari Lodge.
A minimum group of two (2) people is required. Register your BBD participation on http://natureuganda.org/bbd_registration.php or via the NatureUganda website http://natureuganda.org or contact Dianah on email@example.com
